A S Kiran Kumar selected to receive “International von Karman Wings Award” for the year 2018
The Aerospace Historical Society, in collaboration with the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories at the California Institute of Technology (GALCIT) has selected A S Kiran Kumar, Vikram Sarabhai Professor, ISRO and Former Chairman, ISRO / Secretary, Department of Space for International von Karman Wings Award – 2018.
The Society has a rich heritage in recognition and preservation of the history of world-renowned aerospace engineers, and in honoring many of these individuals with the International von Karman Wings Award. With most past honorees being all American space pioneers, honoring Mr Kiran Kumar with this award represents a. step forward in promoting aerospace international collaboration. Mr Kumar is an exceptional honoree given to his visionary ideas regarding the observation of earth from space, international cooperation in observation of global change from space, and his contributions to the development of India’s economy through aerospace technology and telecommunications.
Each year the Society selects acclaimed aerospace pioneer(s) to be honored at a banquet and awards ceremony held at Caltech faculty club, the Athenaeum. This year the celebration is planned during October / November 2018 timeframe.
