Training Meet of Indian Navy held at Naval Base Kochi
Kochi. The Annual Training Conference (ATC) and Annual Training Meeting (ATM) of the Indian Navy were held on 08 Aug 19 at Naval Base, Kochi. Both events were chaired by Vice Admiral AK Chawla, AVSM, NM, VSM, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command (SNC).
During the event, training of officers and men in the Navy was reviewed, progress made in various fields highlighted addressing training challenges and some possible solutions deliberated. Specific focus was given to discussing the impact of recent developments in the field of information technology on training effectiveness. In particular, the potential exploitation of Artificial Intelligence, Virtual and Mixed Reality in naval training were deliberated at length.
‘Gyan Praveen’ Trophy being awarded to Commanding Officer INS Shivaji by Vice Admiral AK Chawla.
On this occasion, the SNC ‘Gyan Praveen’ trophy for the best Computer Based Training (CBT) package was awarded to INS Shivaji, the Marine Engineering training unit of the Navy at Lonavla for its Computer based training package on Turbo Charger and Internal Combustion Engines. The events were graced by the physical presence of Vice Admiral R Harikumar, AVSM, VSM, the Chief of Personnel at New Delhi, other senior officers of SNC, heads of SNC training units, as well as other outstation authorities through Video Conference.
SNC as the Training Command of Indian Navy is responsible for the organisation, conduct and oversight of all basic, professional and specialist training in the Navy. To enable this, the Command continuously evolves policies, formulates syllabi, reviews and restructures the scope of training in various schools and establishments. The Command also coordinates, monitors and controls the day-to-day training activities of the schools and establishments and conducts numerous waterman ship, adventure and sports activities.
The ATC and ATM are held every year to take stock of the Indian Navy’s training methodology and initiatives and make course corrections, if required.
