SDI AF becomes the first Air Force Institute to Achieve CMMI Dev Level 3 Version 3.0 Certification

Bengaluru, October 22. Software Development Institute (SDI), Air Force, located at Bangalore is a premier institute entrusted with the important role of enhancing the operational capabilities of IAF. The task involves Design and Development (D&D) of Mission Critical Avionics Software for integration of high-tech smart weapons and sensors on front line fighter platforms of IAF like Su30, LCA, MiG29 and Jaguar aircraft. The institute is designated as Centre of Excellence (CoE) for cutting edge technologies and development of Network Centric Operations, Su30 Upgrade Programmes and AI based applications for airborne platforms. In addition, state of the art Simulation systems have been developed for training of IAF personnel on Air Combat, Air Defense, Air Traffic Control and Navigation. These systems ensure that the IAF personnel are provided with the best of high-tech simulation systems for most realistic operational training.

Design & Development of Mission Critical Avionics and Simulation Software for the leading edge of Air Combat not only requires the best knowledge and experience, but also requires stringent implementation of best SW Quality Assurance practices. This ensures optimum utilization of Resources and Time while ensuring highest standard of Quality, despite the challenging Operational requirements. Towards this SDI, leading from the front, became the first defense organization in India to achieve the Industry Best Practices Gold Standard, Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) DEV Level 3 Version 1.3 certification in the year 2012. Over the decade, the CMMI standard has undergone major changes. More stringent and new processes have been included in the new CMMI Version 3.0.

In its pursuit of excellence, SDI offered itself for re validation to the new CMMI Version 3.0 and has now become the first Air Force Institute globally to achieve CMMI DEV Level 3 Version 3.0 certification in September 24. This vindicates the very high standard of SW Quality Assurance Processes being implemented at SDI for D&D of Mission Critical Avionics Software.
