EL SEGUNDO, Calif., November 13, 2024. Boeing teams have successfully delivered the 7th and 8th O3b mPOWER satellites to SES. These satellites, featuring Boeing’s advanced software-defined communications payload, are being transported to Cape Canaveral for a planned launch in December.
“We’ve worked closely with SES from the start of this program, and we moved with pace to manufacture the latest pair of satellites,” said Michelle Parker, Vice President Boeing Space Mission Systems. “We look forward to seeing the satellites enter service and continue to impress SES users.”
The O3b mPOWER satellites feature Boeing’s first-of-its-kind software-driven integrated payload array technology, providing adaptable connectivity and high-frequency re-use, a metric used to measure efficiency.
“With our O3b mPOWER system now operational, we are excited to bring these two additional satellites into orbit and bolster our constellation to continue delivering the high quality connectivity services required by our customers,” said Milton Torres, CTO of SES. “We’re proud of the work carried by our SES team, along with Boeing and other technology partners across space and ground segments, to bring the unique capabilities of our O3b mPOWER system online.”
With the ability to generate over 5,000 fully steerable beams, the satellites offer unparalleled flexibility, allowing SES to dynamically allocate bandwidth and power to specific regions or customers as needed. This means users can have fast, reliable internet whether they are on land, at sea, or in the air, enabling seamless connectivity for applications like video streaming, remote work, and critical enterprise operations.
Boeing continues production, integration, and testing of the remaining O3b mPOWER satellites, with plans to deliver the next three in H1 2025.
