The Gsat-N2 satellite is poised to significantly enhance broadband services and in-flight connectivity across India.
The launch marks the first of many commercial collaborations between Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and SpaceX.
According to a statement from SpaceX, the GSAT-N2 or Gsat-20 has been placed at the precise orbit using SpaceX’s Falcon-9 rocket.
The satellite also known as GSAT-20 belongs to India’s GSAT series of National Communication satellites for telecommunications and television.
This is for the first time SpaceX has launched a payload belonging to India. The last GSAT, GSAT-N1, was launched in June 2022, Ariane 5 rocket, from French Guiana.
The launch is the first, following a contract between New Space India Limited (NSIL)-the commercial arm of ISRO- and Elon Musk owned SpaceX, in January this year.
