FOC-in-C West interacts with the Media as Part of Navy Day Celebrations at Mumbai
Mumbai. Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command, addressed media persons at the Annual Press Conference of Navy Week 2024 onboard the Western Fleet’s stealth destroyer INS Mormugao at Mumbai on December 3, 2024.
In his opening address, he highlighted the extensive deployment of ships, submarines, and aircraft by the Western Naval Command (WNC) to maintain and ensure maritime security in our areas of operation and safeguard our national interests. The members of the media were appraised about the initiatives and milestones achieved by the Western Naval Command over the past year, including Op Sankalp, mission-based deployments, exercises with foreign navies, security, safety, humanitarian aid, anti-narcotics and anti-piracy operations, disaster relief, and environmental consciousness.
Fielding a wide range of questions from the media, Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh clarified queries on coastal defence, maritime security, SOPs to operate in extreme conditions, the fight against drug trafficking through sea, indigenous warship production, the use of artificial intelligence, cyber security and future acquisitions among other topics.
The Indian Navy celebrates Navy Day on December 4 every year, the date on which, during the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict, naval ships, armed to the teeth, stealthily manoeuvred off Karachi and unleashed a lethal missile attack that left the port ablaze and destroyed several enemy warships.
