Body Scanners installed at IGI Airport in New Delhi
New Delhi. Full Body scanners are being installed at the T3 terminal of the Indira Gandhi International Airport here.
A trial run was conducted on Dec 5 by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards various airports in the country. Passengers were requested to go though the scanners on a voluntary basis. Officials said a decision on installing them permanently would be taken after some time.
The Full Body Scanners are now installed at airports across the world as part of counter-terror measures although there have been some privacy concerns.
According to reports, the machines produces mannequin-like images, but they can be configured to not clearly define body parts. There is a kind of body image filter, an official explained.
The new generation Body Scanners can also detect liquid explosives, or ceramic and composite materials weapons.
