Chandrayaan 3 Rover Pragyan ramps down from the Lander “Takes a Walk on the Moon”

  • Pragyan rover rolls out successfully near Moon’s south pole

Bangalore, August 24. Chandrayaan-3 ISRO’s third lunar mission made a historic soft landing on the Moon on August 23.

This made India only the fourth nation to land a rover on the lunar surface and also the first ever country to land a rover near the Moon’s South Pole.

Meanwhile, a day after making a historical landing, the Pragyan rover ramped down from the Vikram lander and is moving on the Moon’s surface, where it will conduct scientific experiments for 14 days.

ISRO informed about the landing of Pragyan rover from the Vikram lander on Thursday. In a tweet on X, ISRO wrote, “Chandrayaan-3 Mission: Chandrayaan-3 ROVER: Made in India Made for the MOON! The Ch-3 Rover ramped down from the Lander and India took a walk on the moon.”

The Pragyan rover descended from the lander onto the Moon’s surface using a side panel as a ramp. All activities are on schedule. All systems are normal. Lander Module payloads ILSA, RAMBHA and ChaSTE are turned ON August 24. Rover mobility operations have commenced. SHAPE payload on the Propulsion Module was turned ON on August 20,” ISRO shared on X (formerly Twitter).
