Exercise Sea Vigil Commences
Mumbai, November 15. Headquarters Western Naval Command is progressing the largest pan-India coastal defence exercise, Sea Vigil-22, along the West coast on 15th and 16th November 2022. Apart from the Indian Navy, the entire mechanism of coastal defence, including the Indian Coast Guard, Marine Police, Coastal Police, State Intelligence Department, Maharashtra Maritime Board, Port Security, Customs, Dept of Fisheries, CIS, DG Light Houses, and all agencies charged with coastal security of India are participating in full strength in the exercise.
The exercise was preceded by multiple planning and coordination meetings among all state and central agencies. Ships and air assets of the Western Naval Command of the Indian Navy, the Indian Coast Guard and other state and civilian agencies have been deployed to secure all vital assets, vital points, fish landing points, vulnerable landing points and other sensitive areas all along the West coast of the country.
Flag Officers of all Naval Areas of coastal states are coordinating and assessing the response of all agencies involved in coastal defence by injecting various contingencies envisaged during a coastal defence crisis situation. With the clear aim of learning lessons and identifying gaps in the existing setup, Sea Vigil-22 aims to strengthen interagency coordination among all stakeholders and the coastal community to ensure that the Indian coastline is always secure and well defended.
