India launches sixth Navigation Satellite

Sriharikota. India launched its sixth navigation satellite from the southern Indian spaceport of Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh March 10.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) used a longer range version of its trusted Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, PSLV-XL (PSLV-C32), to lift the approximately 1400-kg satellite, designate IRNSS 1F. Five earlier satellites designated 1A to 1E are already operational.

ISRO had planned a seven-satellite constellation in the series called Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) for a variety of communication applications.
