ISRO launches largest LVM3 rocket carrying 36 Oneweb satellites

  • The Launch Vehicle Mark-III (LVM-III) took off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, at 9 am on Sunday.
  • The 43.5-metre tall LVM3 rocket that weighs 643 ton is carrying 36 satellites, totally weighing 5,805 kg or about 5.8 ton. It blasted off from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 9 a.m.
  • In this mission, LVM3 would place 36 OneWeb Gen-1 satellites totaling about 5,805 kg into a 450 km circular orbit with an inclination of 87.4 degrees.
  • This is the sixth flight of LVM3.
  • The LVM3 had five consecutive successful missions, including the Chandrayaan-2 mission.

Sriharikota/ Bangalore.  The Launch Vehicle Mark-III (LVM-III) took off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, at 9 am on March 26.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday successfully launched India’s largest Launch Vehicle Mark-III (LVM3) rocket-OneWeb India-2 Mission with 36 satellites onboard from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

The 43.5-metre tall LVM3 rocket that weighs 643 ton is carrying 36 satellites, totally weighing 5,805 kg or about 5.8 ton. It blasted off from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 9 a.m.
The countdown to the second commercial launch of LVM3 rocket was kickstarted on Saturday. It was launched at 9 am on Sunday.

The LVM-III deployed 36 satellites of the UK-based Network Access Associated Ltd (OneWeb) to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) on Sunday. The OneWeb Group Company has inked a contract with ISRO’s commercial arm NewSpace India Ltd. to launch 72 satellites into LEO.

The first satellite deployment collaboration between the two organisations took place on 23 October2022 with ISRO launching 36 satellites of OneWeb.

In this mission, LVM3 would place 36 OneWeb Gen-1 satellites totaling about 5,805 kg into a 450 km circular orbit with an inclination of 87.4 degrees. This is the sixth flight of LVM3. The LVM3 had five consecutive successful missions, including the Chandrayaan-2 mission.

OneWeb is a global communication network powered from space, enabling connectivity for governments and businesses.

ISRO Chairman S. Somanath congratulated team ISRO and NSIL for achieving the Success of the launch.

With this, ISRO successfully conducts second launch this year after Small Satellite Launch Vehicle, earlier this year.
