Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft, painted in
the Air India livery was definitely the cynosure
of all eyes.
And Senior Vice President (Sales), Asia-Pacific
and India Dinesh Keskar told India Strategic
that the first Dreamliner is likely to
be inducted by Air India in May after it gets
operational and technical certifications from
the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA),
the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation
(DGCA) and other agencies.
He added that the delivery of the first of the
ten 787s for Jet Airways would begin by 2014.
“The 787 Dreamliner is a game changer and we are
proud to bring it to India Aviation 2012, which
is a perfect place to showcase the world’s most
advanced commercial airplane.”
The long-range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine
jet airliner seats 210 to 290 passengers, and
has stunning interiors. Air India has ordered
27 of these aircraft and Jet Airways 10.
Air India had ordered these Dreamliners in 2005
but Boeing had failed to stick to the delivery
schedule. As per the original schedule, Boeing
was to start delivery from September 2008. The
delay will result into a compensation mutually
agreed upon by the two parties.
The first Boeing 787, powered by GE engines,
is being supplied to Japan’s ANA airline.
Notably, unlike other Boeing models, the 787
is assembled from subassemblies manufactured in
several countries and flown to Seattle, Washington
in modified 747s. Some of the parts built outside
Everett there include fuselage sections made would
begin by 2014. “The 787 Dreamliner is a game changer

Italy, Japan, South Korea and elsewhere in the
United States.
Floor beams are built in India. Wing sections
come from Japan. The doors and landing gear are
made in France and Sweden. Portions of the tail
are made in Italy and South Korea. Boeing is seeking
to increase the number of 787s built each month
from 2.5 to 10 by late 2013.
