"India can develop world's cheapest nuclear
reactors with an amount of $1,700 per unit for
a 700 MW reactor when compared to an average of
$2,500 and $3,000," Minister of State in
the Prime Minister's Office V. Narayansamy told
the Rajya Sabha, the upper house, in written reply
to a question.
One kilowatt is a thousandth part of a megawatt.
The minister said the quality of Indian nuclear
power reactors is comparable to that in other
countries of the world, including South Korea.
"The completion cost of the indigenous 700
MW Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) presently
under construction is about $1,700 per kilowatt,"
Narayanswamy added.
