The
First Sea Lord visited Cochin Shipyard and was shown the underconstruction indigenous
aircraft carrier Vikrant. He also visited some of the training facilities and
simulators in the Southern Naval Command and familiarised himself with the training
methodology of the Indian Navy. Vice Admiral SPS Cheema, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief,
Southern Naval Command, had a meeting with the visiting dignitary and discussed
the issues of mutual interest. Indian Navy and the Royal Navy cooperate
with each other in technical training, anti-piracy patrols and Navyto- Navy staff
talks. The two navies have also been exercising together at sea in the bilateral
exercises codenamed, ‘EX KONKAN’ since 2004. Warships from both the navies call
at each other’s ports, which provide excellent opportunity for professional interaction
and building bridges of friendship. |
