HAL holds Airline Operator Conference
-Maharashtra Government signs MoU with HAL

Bangalore. Indian Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd held an Airline Operator Conference showcasing its airport facilities at New Airport Terminal Building in Ozar, 20 km from Nashik August 1.

On this occasion, HAL and Government of Maharashtra also signed a Memorandum of Understanding that allows the DPSU to use the Airport Terminal Building for 30 years on lease. The land belongs to HAL. The agreement was signed between Dr PS Meena, Additional Chief Secretary (Civil Aviation), Maharashtra and Mr T Suvarna Raju, CMD, HAL. Dr Meena said Maharashtra Government will extend all facilities including the seat write-off (under certain conditions) to the operators.

The company is all geared up to start the operations and airline companies were briefed about facilities at the airport and advantages of operating from Nashik.

“Civilian aircraft operations at Nashik will go a long way in development of the region in the coming years. Apart from operating the scheduled flights, the domestic and international airlines will be able to use this airport for diversion, technical halt and night parking,” said Mr Raju. The movement of cargo such as engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, vegetable and fruits directly from Nashik should reduce load on Mumbai airport, he added.

The new airport terminal built by Maharashtra Government was inaugurated last year and has all the modern amenities for the comfort of passengers. HAL's initiative presents Ozar airport as an alternate for Mumbai which is just over 100 km. A cargo complex has been established by HAL, Nashik for clearance of export and import of goods. Customs and other facilities are in place for single window clearance and the airport has sufficient open land for expansion to cater to the large volume of exports and imports flowing from the region which can decongest the neighbouring ports and airports at Pune and Mumbai in particular.

The airport terminal has been built as per international standards. Six planes can park at a time and the terminal building has a seating capacity of 300 passengers. The building is totally air-conditioned and is just 700 m from the runway, 3.5 km in length and 60 m in width, and is capable of handling large jet and cargo aircraft. The airport terminal is spread over 22 acres with a built-up area of 8,267 sqm.

The Conference was attended by representatives from seven scheduled operators, 15 non-scheduled operators, travel associations and the industry based at Nasik. The scheduled operators included Air India, Blue Dart, DHL, IndiGo, Jet Airways, Go Air and AI Express.
