Kazan, Russia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, at Kazan, Russia, on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS SUMMIT.
This is the first meeting between the two leaders since Masoud Pezeshkian took over as the President of Iran in July, this year..,
The two leaders reviewed the bilateral relatiins and discussed ways to further strengthen Cooperation in varous fields.
Noting that the signing of the long-term contract of the Chabahar port is an important milestone in bilateral relations, the two leaders reaffirmed its significance for reconstruction and redevelopment of Afganisthan and enhancing trade and economic linkages with Central Asia.
The leaders also exchanged views on Regional developments, including the situation in West Asia.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep concern over the widening of the conflict and reiterated India’s call to de-escalate the situation and also emphasised on the protection of civilians and the role of diplomacy in resolving the conflict.
The leaders agreed to continue their Cooperation in various multilateral forums, including BRICS and SCO.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited President Pezeshkian to visit India at an early date, and the Iranian President accepted the Invitation.
India and Iran share longstanding civilisation ties. Iran is situated in India’s extended neighbourhood and the two countries have significant overlap in economic and security space and are important trade partners.
