Thailand Ambassador Pattarat Hongtong meets ISRO Chairman

Bengaluru, June 26. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Republic of India, H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, met Mr. Somanath S., Chairman, ISRO/Secretary, Department of Space at the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) in Bengaluru on June 25, 2024. Mr. M. Sankaran, Director URSC and Mr. Racha Aribarg, Consul-General of Thailand (at Chennai) along with senior ISRO officials and Thailand diplomats have also participated in this meeting.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Somanath S. underscored the potential benefits of space technology in sectors such as agriculture, oceanography, disaster management, and cartography. He also mentioned about participation of Thailand officials in various capacity building programmes conducted by ISRO Centres on the utilization of space technology. In alignment with India’s interest in deepen engagements with other nations, especially those in Southeast Asia, he expressed ISRO/DOS’s readiness to support Thailand in the field of space.

While deeply appreciating India’s achievements in space technology, Thailand Ambassador expressed keen interest in furthering space collaboration with India. Ambassador highlighted that recent successful missions of India like Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1, has garnered greater enthusiasm among the public of Thailand. On furthering the partnership, Ambassador mentioned that the upcoming launch of THEOS-2A satellite on-board India’s PSLV later this year will be an important milestone in bilateral space relations and pave way for enhanced engagements among various stakeholders of both nations’ space ecosystem.

While mentioning about G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation, Chairman, ISRO suggested that Thailand could make use of the scientific data emanating from this mission.

The meeting ended with a positive note to continue to work together to further enhance bilateral space collaboration.
