The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution (A/RES/73/129) to raise awareness of meditation as a result of its unique qualities and Rights- 21 December is World Meditation Day, the day when all human beings have absolute rights over their mental and physical health. In other words, they have the right of individuals to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.

The main theme of World Meditation Day is Inner peace and global harmony. Meditation helps people calm their minds, reduce stress, and find balance in life. When individuals achieve inner peace, it reflects in their actions, creating a positive impact on others. This practice encourages understanding, kindness, and unity across the world. World Meditation Day is a day that we come together, to meditate and get the word out about the benefits of meditation. The practice of meditation emphasizes focus and distraction reduction focusing on the mind to achieve mental clarity and emotional peace is the core of meditation.

This year 2024, the World Meditation Day Theme is “Inner Peace, Global Harmony!”. A global call to recognize the day by focusing on promoting mindfulness, peace, and health. It encourages individuals to practice meditation as a tool to cope with stress, foster mental clarity, and create a sense of connection within communities. The theme often reflects the need for mindfulness in the modern world, where stress, anxiety, and other challenges can affect overall well-being.
